Baptism

What is baptism?

Jesus’ baptism marked a turning point in his life. It was a demonstration of humility, a picture of His ultimate mission: death, burial and resurrection.

Baptism marks a turning point in our life, too. It publicly expresses our commitment to God and is a picture of what God has done inside us.

“For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.” Romans 6:4

Who should be baptized?

Anyone who believes in Jesus Christ should be baptized after trusting him. (Acts 2:41; Acts 8:12)

Why be baptized?

We are baptized to obey Jesus’ command and to follow His example. (Matthew 28:19; Mark 1:9-11)

How should we be baptized?

The Greek word “baptizo” means “to dip” or “to immerse.” That’s how Jesus was baptized. It demonstrates our death and burial. Coming out of the water is a vivid picture of our new life in Christ. (Matthew 3:16; Acts 8:38-39)
